Media Project 2
Media Project 1
Facebook

Have you ever met another student in a class and wanted to get to know them better without asking them a hundred questions? By using Facebook you can find out a lot about a person from their profile page. It would be easier that asking a hundred questions, because people update their profile page constantly when they think of something else they like. Since each person creates his/her own profile page, it is a great way to find out about them. Facebook is used by many people around the world in order to “research” another person they want to get to know a little more about.
If you are a member of Facebook you can search anyone you want. Once, Facebook has found that person, you can request to add them as one of your friends that way you can talk to them. Some people have their profiles on private, which means you can’t look at anything on their page unless you are their friend. Also, some people have set their profiles to where some of their friends can only see certain things. The current members of Facebook mainly use it to keep in touch with people and to find out interesting things about people.
There is so much you can put on your profile to help people get to know you. First, you get to put a picture that everyone gets to see if they search you or if you are already their friend, they can see it when you are online. You can put your birthday, hometown, religious views and even more if you want, in the basic information part at the top of the page. Below that, you can put your contact information such as your email address, home address, AIM name, and any phone numbers. Also, you can put what activities you like, your favorite TV shows, movies, books, and quotes. There are a lot of different applications you can add to your profile too. One of the main accessories that people put on there page numerous times are pictures. You can make albums for special events or just random pictures. Unfortunately, some of the pictures people put on there get them in trouble.
Recently many companies have been investigating their current and future employees by viewing their Facebook profiles. College campuses have also been researching their students’ Facebook profiles. For instance, here at Purdue in Krannert management school, the Dean has recently hired people to research the sophomores trying to get into upper division management and the current students already in Krannert. They specifically look at pictures I think, to see what students participate in on the weekends. For these reasons and many more, if you have Facebook you need to make you profile limited, so not just anyone can see your page. Even better is not to put any pictures, saying or anything that you don’t think is appropriate for your boss to see.
In conclusion, Facebook can be very helpful if you are interested in getting to know someone. Facebook is a great way to learn some interesting facts about a person. You can find out what kind of things they are interested in and like to participate in. You can even meet new people through your friends on Facebook. It’s an easy way to make life-long friends. Facebook is one of the best ways to keep up and in touch with your friends and their lives.

Do you know Valerie Petrey? If you don't search for her on Facebook. I did and learned a lot of cool and interesting things about her. From her pictures alone I realized that she is very close with her friends and family. She has almost 200 pictures with them. It shows that she is a good and loyal friend. it also shows how much she cares about her family. She has 800 wall posts which tells me that she is very good at keeping in touch with her friends as well as some family members who may have Facebook.
Valerie's profile is very detailed and informative. I learned that she has a lot of interests. I can tell she put a lot of time and effort into creating her profile page, so people can see what she is like. She is very specific on the music she likes to listen to, she names a lot of specific artists and bands. It tells people that she listens to just about anything and she likes a variety. She also expresses all the TV shows she likes and her favorite movies. Again, she does this is very good detail. She also has some really good quotes about life and love.
In conclusion, by observing Valerie's Facebook page after adding her as a friend, I have learned so many things about her. I have been able to see how much I have in common with her. I really enjoyed looking threw all the extra settings she has added on her profile too. I think Facebook, in general, is one of the best ways to get to know someone, informally. The way Valerie has her Facebook profile organized can tell anyone who knows her, wether a little or a lot, more about her face to the world.

The way I present myself to the world is mostly reflects on my facebook page. There are so many things you can find out about a person from the things they put on their facebook profile. By putting pictures and writing on my friends walls and them relpying, people can see that I have good relationships with my friends. Also, you can see the things I'm interested in and enjoying participating in. Facebook profiles are used in a lot of ways to research people and their behaviors.
When I created my profile, I made sure that I didn't put things on it that would be embarrassing to me or my friends. On facebook there are some things that you can't change on your profile, such as the main layout. I also included my interests and educational information, that way my friends can see what I'm majoring in and the school I attend, if they don't already know. I created my facebook account so I could keep intouch with my friends from home and high school and even some of my family members.
Facebook makes me a member of the college social group, because you can find a lot of new friends that go to the same school and/or are studying the same subject you are. You can meet so many new people from all over the world. I do consider myself a part of this group because that is one of the main reason I enjoy facebook so much, is because of all the new, interesting people you can meet and become friends with. This group has made a difference in my life because I stay intouch with people I don't think I would've stayed intouch with if I didn't have facebook and I have met some people I probably never would've met.
In conclusion, I think my facebook profile can tell people more about me and my life than my dorm room, or my clothes, or my hobbies. If anything big changes in my life and can let people know but just adding it on to my profile, which is a lot easier than calling or emailing everyone. When I apply for a job or when I try to get into upper division of Krannert here at Purdue, I know for a fact that they Dean has someone look at students profile pages to get an idea about them and make sure they won't be a bad addition to the school. Personally I think you can find out what kind of a person someone really is by their facebook page. I think it is the best way to learn about someone and their interest and their life in general.
